Vintage 1940s Noritake Soup Bowls with Green & White Flowers - Set of Four circa 1947-1949

{HISTORY}

Capturing all the serenity of the sun-dappled spring and summer garden, this set of four porcelain soup bowls features impatiens flowers in all their pretty stages from bud to blossom.

Made by Noritake between the slim window of 1947 to 1949, each bowl is rimmed in gold and features a smattering of green shades ranging from dark olive to pale sand. After experiencing a long pause in manufacturing during WWII, Noritake was back up and running, exporting dishware to America just one year before these dishes were made.

Peaceful, classic, and a carefree grower in the garden, impatiens, in the language of flowers, symbolize enduring love and resiliency, two ideal motivators that would have encouraged home cooks to celebrate, share, and reimagine their lives after the war ended. It's fun to think that this dish pattern might have been a sign of resiliency and love for its maker, too, heralding in a new era of tranquility and friendship.

French Onion Soup, Sliced Avocado Salad, Spring Pea Pasta, Saucy White Beans, Venetian-Style Potatoes,  Spinach Risotto... these are just a handful of menu items that would look so lovely served in these bowls. Half the fun of collecting vintage dishware is imagining the kind of meals you'll make to highlight the beauty of a dish. These four offer many possibilities when it comes to cooking.  They also pair beautifully with simple gold and white dishes, green accents, and whiteware collections.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

  • Colors include sand, sage, celadon, olive, gold, and beige against bright white porcelain
