Vintage 1990s Blue & White Van Zyverden Bulb Pot with Sailboat & Windmill Scenes

{HISTORY}

From Holland to their company headquarters in Mississippi, the Van Zyverden family has been supplying America's bulb market for over 100 years.

Started in the Netherlands by Jack Van Zyverden, it was his sons, Paul and Dirk, who helped grow the family bulb business in the United States. When Paul Van Zyverden (1932-2017) permanently moved from Holland to Meriden, Mississippi, in the early 1960s, he set up Van Zyverden Bros. headquarters on the second floor of the local feed store. Over time, as the company grew, it expanded to include operations in New Jersey and California. Now recognized as one of the largest bulb suppliers in the country, Van Zyverden features bulb stock from the around the world and has continued to be family-owned and operated in the United States for three generations.

In the 1990s, when this Delft-style blue and white bulb dish was made, Van Zyverden Bros. was packaging narcissus, crocus, and paperwhites in these pretty pots for sale around the country. Eye-catching from all angles, it features a traditional windmill landscape on one side and a sailboat on the other side.  Incidentally, Paul was a lover of sailboats and the ocean, too, so we suspect he might have had some influence on this pot’s design or perhaps served as the inspiration.

A lovely gift of the season meant to be celebrated year after year, this bulb pot continues to bring beauty to counters, tabletops and window sills day after day, decade after decade. It looks especially pretty with blue and white dishware collections, whiteware,  and maritime decor.
