Vintage 1950’s Shenango RimRol Dinner Plate  Chardon Rose Red Pattern N-9 circa 1951

Bring all the fun and merriment of dining out home to your house with vintage restaurantware from the 1950’s…

{HISTORY}

When Shenango China came out with the RimRol design for their restaurantware in the mid-20th century, they were on a mission to make plates sturdier, easier to grab and easier to carry for busy waitstaff in busy restaurants. This vintage RimRol dinner plate was made in 1951 by Shenango in their Chardon Rose pattern which features a design of florals, scallops and clouds in a bright burgundy red color.

One of the fun things about collecting vintage restaurantware is imagining what restaurant it was made for, and where it was located, and who ate there. Was it a busy diner in a big city or a humble mom and pop place in a small town? Maybe it was a coffee shop somewhere in between. Only certain restaurantware carries specific marks as to the establishments they served, which were are usually found  in logos or icons on the rim. For the rest of the millions of pieces of different types of restaurantware that don’t contain such identifiers, we get the chance to make up the stories of where they’ve been and whom they’ve served - a fun way to start the conversation at any meal time.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

  • RimRol design
  • Chardon Rose Pattern
  • Marked on bottom with maker’s mark and production date code (N-9)

{CONDITION}

In good vintage condition. There are very light utensil marks which can be seen only when held up to the light at an angle. On the underside, there is a small chip on the innermost ring closest to the logo. This does not affect the way the plate sits on a flat surface in any way (it doesn’t wobble).

{SIZE}

Measures 10.5” inches (diameter)

{STYLE IDEA}
