Vintage Edwin Knowles Navarre Pattern Luncheon Plates Set of Six circa 1940s

MERE COLOR CAN SPEAK TO THE SOUL IN A THOUSAND DIFFERENT WAYS. OSCAR WILDE

{HISTORY}

Like a lush and bountiful summer garden bouquet, this pretty set of six vintage luncheon plates is bursting with color and cottage charm. Made by Edwin Knowles in the 1940s, this pattern is called Navarre and features a big bouquet of colorful blooms that include roses, forget-me-nots, and strawflowers.  Designed in the Puritan shape, these plates are also rimmed with gold and contain an embossed edge that mirrors the outline of a flower petal.

Based in West Virginia between 1900-1963, Edwin M. Knowles made some of the prettiest dishware in the country with patterns that were colorful, feminine, and visually striking. These plates were no exception. Colors include pink, lavender, butter, tangerine, watermelon green, magenta, sage, periwinkle, and bluebell.

So pretty for spring and summer entertaining, garden parties, Mother's Day brunch, and Easter festivities, these six brighten the table in the most joyful of ways. In the words of John Keats... Nature is the poetry of the earth. The Navarre pattern celebrates just that - the beauty of the botanical world and all that it inspires.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

  • Stamped on back with maker's mark and date code

We photographed one of each, side by side, so that you can see the difference, but both color arrangements are lovely together and just slightly different in color palette. Please see photos.
